Job Description
Embark on an exciting career path with Renfrewshire Council as a Trainee Fleet Mechanic through our comprehensive Apprenticeship programme. Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified mechanics in carrying out routine maintenance and servicing of various government vehicles.
- Learn to diagnose faults and carry out repairs under supervision, using a range of diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Undertake preventative maintenance checks and inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and vehicle history.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and workshop procedures.
- Participate actively in all aspects of the apprenticeship training programme, including college attendance and practical assessments.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment.
Required Skills
- A keen interest in mechanics and the automotive industry.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Basic understanding of mechanical principles (can be from personal hobbies).
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- A valid UK driving license, or a commitment to obtaining one during the apprenticeship.
Preferred Qualifications
- National 4/5 or equivalent qualifications in English, Mathematics, and a Science or Technical subject.
- Prior experience with vehicle maintenance, even from personal projects or volunteer work, is a plus but not essential.
- Demonstrable enthusiasm for a career in vehicle mechanics.
