Job Description

Are you passionate about the outdoors and eager to start a career making a real difference in environmental conservation? The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking enthusiastic individuals for a Trainee Forestry Technician position. This entry-level role is perfect for someone with no prior experience who is ready to learn and contribute to the management and protection of our national parks and protected areas. You will receive comprehensive, hands-on training from experienced professionals, covering all aspects of forestry and park management. This is an exciting opportunity to launch an outdoor career, working directly within Queensland’s beautiful natural environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in structured training programs to develop skills in forestry management, fire management, and park operations.
  • Assist experienced technicians with routine maintenance and development of park infrastructure, including trails, campsites, and visitor facilities.
  • Support wildfire prevention and suppression activities, including fuel reduction and firebreak maintenance.
  • Learn and apply techniques for invasive plant and animal control.
  • Assist with ecological monitoring, data collection, and basic environmental assessments.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment safely, including chainsaws, mowers, and small vehicles (after training and certification).
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.

  • Current 'C' class Australian driver’s license (or equivalent) is highly desirable.

  • Experience with basic hand tools or outdoor equipment (even from hobbies or volunteer work).
