Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Urban Farm Harvest Assistant to join our team in Oxnard. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a passion for sustainable agriculture, and are committed to community service. As a Harvest Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the cultivation, harvesting, and distribution of fresh produce from our urban farm sites. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for entry-level candidates eager to learn and grow in a hands-on environment. This position involves early morning starts to ensure produce freshness and often allows for early finishes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planting, weeding, watering, and general crop maintenance at urban farm locations.
- Perform daily harvesting of various fruits, vegetables, and herbs according to quality standards.
- Sort, clean, and package harvested produce for distribution to food pantries and community programs.
- Operate basic farm tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Contribute to farm site upkeep, including bed preparation and composting.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist with delivery and distribution logistics as needed.
- Work collaboratively with farm staff and volunteers.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, sun).
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- A positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles (training provided).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in gardening, farming, or landscaping (not required, but a plus).
- Familiarity with organic farming practices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
- Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record.
