Job Description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives? Derby City Council is seeking an empathetic and dedicated individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Victim Advocate. This is a truly rewarding public sector role where you will provide crucial support and guidance to victims of crime, helping them navigate complex systems and find pathways to recovery. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for individuals eager to start a career in social justice or victim support with no prior experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate and confidential support to victims of various crimes.
  • Assess victims' needs and develop tailored support plans.
  • Accompany victims to court, police interviews, or other appointments as required.
  • Liaise with police, legal professionals, health services, and other agencies to ensure victims receive comprehensive assistance.
  • Offer practical and emotional support, information on victims' rights, and guidance on the criminal justice process.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and support provided.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
  • Advocate for victims' interests and ensure their voices are heard.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Work, Criminology, Psychology, or a related field (or working towards one).
  • Previous volunteer experience in a support, advocacy, or community-facing role.
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system (training will be provided).
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (desirable for outreach).
