Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Wildlife Rescue Center Laborer to join our compassionate team. This role is essential to the health and well-being of the animals under our care, focusing primarily on maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for all rescue animals and facilities. While the work involves heavy cleaning and can be physically demanding, it is incredibly rewarding, knowing your efforts directly contribute to the rehabilitation and successful release of wildlife. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily heavy cleaning and sanitization of animal enclosures, kennels, and holding areas.
- Clean and disinfect food and water bowls, enrichment items, and other animal care equipment.
- Collect and dispose of animal waste, soiled bedding, and trash according to established protocols.
- Clean and maintain common areas, storage rooms, and staff facilities within the rescue center.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and report needs to supervisor.
- Assist with groundskeeping and general facility maintenance as needed.
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols for handling cleaning agents and waste.
- Observe animals for any signs of distress or changes in behavior and report to animal care staff.
- Operate basic cleaning machinery and tools safely and effectively.
- Adhere to strict biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of disease.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively as part of a team.
- A compassionate and respectful attitude towards animals.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions, as some tasks may be outdoors.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience in custodial work, general labor, or animal care settings.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and safety procedures.
- Comfort working in an environment with animals and animal by-products.
