Job Description

Are you a curious and enthusiastic science student with a passion for brewing and fermentation? Northern Lights Craft Brewery is seeking a Zymology & Fermentation Science Intern to join our dedicated team in Prince Albert. This entry-level internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real-world brewing environment. You will work closely with our experienced brewers and quality control specialists, learning the scientific principles behind fermentation, yeast management, quality assurance, and product development. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of laboratory media and reagents.
  • Conduct routine quality control tests on raw materials, in-process, and finished products (e.g., pH, gravity, turbidity, cell counts).
  • Monitor fermentation kinetics, including yeast health and activity.
  • Assist with yeast propagation, harvesting, and storage.
  • Perform aseptic sampling and plating techniques to identify and count microorganisms.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and production environment.
  • Document and report experimental results and observations accurately.
  • Support brewers in day-to-day operations related to fermentation processes.
  • Learn and adhere to all health, safety, and quality assurance protocols.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of biology, chemistry, or microbiology principles.
  • Strong eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or Diploma program in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Previous experience (academic or extracurricular) with laboratory work.
  • Demonstrated interest in brewing, winemaking, or other fermentation-based industries.
