Job Description

Lanarkshire Emergency Communications is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Public Safety Telecommunicators. This is a fast-paced and incredibly rewarding role where you will be the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching vital resources and providing critical support. No prior experience in telecommunications is required as we provide comprehensive, full training to equip you with all the skills needed to excel in this challenging yet fulfilling profession. You will learn to handle high-pressure situations, think quickly, and communicate effectively to ensure public safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and accurately process emergency (999) and non-emergency (101) calls from the public.
  • Gather critical information from callers to assess the nature and location of incidents.
  • Dispatch appropriate emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulance) according to established protocols.
  • Provide essential pre-arrival instructions to callers during medical emergencies or dangerous situations.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of all calls, dispatches, and related activities.
  • Monitor multiple radio frequencies and communication systems simultaneously.
  • Collaborate effectively with field units and other emergency service agencies.
  • Remain calm, professional, and empathetic while handling highly stressful and emotional situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service, call centre, or administrative role.
  • Familiarity with public safety communication systems (training will be provided).
  • Knowledge of the local Hamilton and wider South Lanarkshire area.
  • Ability to speak additional languages.
