Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Public Housing Coordinator to join our Housing Services team. This critical role involves managing and coordinating public housing initiatives, ensuring compliance with local and national housing regulations, and providing comprehensive support to tenants. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of housing provision, fostering positive tenant relations, and contributing to the overall well-being of the Carlisle community. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage tenant applications, allocations, and transfers for public housing properties.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and address maintenance issues promptly, liaising with contractors.
  • Provide advice and support to tenants regarding tenancy agreements, housing rights, and responsibilities.
  • Process rent payments, manage arrears, and administer housing benefit claims and queries.
  • Resolve tenant disputes and implement appropriate interventions to ensure peaceful tenancy.
  • Maintain accurate tenant records and housing databases in compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Prepare reports on housing occupancy, maintenance status, and tenant welfare for senior management.
  • Ensure all housing policies and procedures comply with current housing legislation and council guidelines.
  • Collaborate with community partners and support agencies to provide holistic support to tenants.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience of at least 3 years in housing management or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and housing management software.
  • Understanding of UK housing legislation and tenancy laws.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Housing Studies, Social Work, or Public Administration.
  • Experience working within a local authority or public sector housing department.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Carlisle.
  • Ability to speak additional languages relevant to the local community.
