Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Child Life Specialist Intern to join our dedicated team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic pediatric hospital setting, supporting children and families facing medical challenges. Under the guidance of certified Child Life Specialists, interns will learn to implement therapeutic play, provide procedural support, and offer educational interventions to help children cope with hospitalization, illness, and medical procedures. This is an entry-level position designed to provide comprehensive training and mentorship for aspiring Child Life Professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Certified Child Life Specialists in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate play and activity programs.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and families during medical procedures and treatments.
  • Utilize therapeutic play techniques to help children express feelings, reduce anxiety, and understand their medical experiences.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and procedures in child-friendly language.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and engaging environment in playrooms and patient rooms.
  • Document observations and interventions in patient records as required.

  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced and emotionally challenging environments.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Basic understanding of child development theories and principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's program in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous volunteer or work experience with children in healthcare, education, or community settings.
  • Completion of relevant coursework in child life or pediatric care.
