Job Description
Are you a driven and analytical engineering student looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic industrial environment? NOVA Chemicals is seeking a Chemical Engineering Intern specializing in Process Optimization to join our team in Red Deer, Alberta. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, working alongside experienced engineers to identify and implement improvements in our manufacturing processes. You will contribute to projects aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing resource utilization, gaining invaluable experience in a leading petrochemical company. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in data collection and analysis to identify process bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Support senior engineers in designing and executing process experiments and trials.
- Utilize simulation software and engineering principles to model process changes and predict outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of process optimization strategies.
- Participate in safety reviews and adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing project findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and research & development.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong academic record with a solid understanding of chemical engineering principles (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, reaction kinetics).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Hysys, PRO/II) is a plus.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools.
- Participation in engineering design projects or clubs.
- Demonstrated interest in process optimization, sustainability, or chemical manufacturing.
