Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Court Support Assistant to join our team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the provincial justice system in a meaningful way. As a Family Court Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the smooth operation of family court proceedings, providing essential administrative support to court staff, judges, and the public. You will assist with managing court documents, scheduling appointments, and providing general information to individuals navigating the family court system. This role offers comprehensive training and is ideal for individuals looking to start a career in public service and the legal field, with a strong emphasis on administrative support and client interaction in a sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to Family Court judges and staff, including scheduling, file management, and correspondence.
- Assist the public with inquiries, providing information on court procedures, forms, and general guidance without offering legal advice.
- Prepare and process various court documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintain organized and confidential court records, both physical and electronic.
- Coordinate appointments and court appearances, managing calendars and communicating with relevant parties.
- Operate court technology and equipment as required during proceedings.
- Liaise with internal departments and external agencies to facilitate court operations.
- Support the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Family Court through diligent administrative tasks.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with diverse individuals.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer literacy.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in office administration, legal studies, or a related field.
- Previous experience in an office environment, particularly in a client-facing or administrative support role.
- Familiarity with legal terminology or court procedures.
- Experience using case management software.
