Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and efficient Theatrical Wardrobe / Costume Dresser to join our dynamic backstage team. This role is crucial for the seamless execution of our live theatrical productions, requiring quick thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the care, maintenance, and precise dressing of costumes during rehearsals and performances, ensuring actors are always performance-ready. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about theatre and dedicated to the intricate art of costume management.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute quick changes for performers during live productions with precision and efficiency.
- Assist performers with dressing and undressing, ensuring proper fit and appearance of costumes.
- Maintain all costume pieces, including cleaning, steaming, pressing, and minor repairs (sewing, patching).
- Organize and manage costume inventory, ensuring all elements are accounted for and stored correctly.
- Pre-set costumes and accessories for each performance according to dresser plots and show requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the Wardrobe Supervisor, Assistant Stage Managers, and performers.
- Track and report any costume damage or repair needs promptly.
- Adhere to strict show schedules and backstage protocols.
- Assist with costume fittings and alterations as needed during technical rehearsals.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in theatrical wardrobe or costume dressing in a live production setting.
- Strong basic sewing skills for quick repairs and alterations.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Theatre Production, Fashion, or a related field.
- Familiarity with a wide range of fabric types and their specific care requirements.
- Experience with various costume styles and historical periods.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of theatrical health and safety protocols.
