As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting patients and the healthcare team in various settings within Red Deer. You will assist patients with daily living activities, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well-being. This is an immediate start position, allowing you to quickly embark on a fulfilling path in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Support patient mobility, transfers, and ambulation, utilizing appropriate equipment.
- Monitor and record vital signs, reporting any changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
- Assist with feeding and ensure proper nutrition for patients.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment for patients.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, respecting their dignity and privacy.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
- Document observations and care provided accurately and timely.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, policies, and procedures of Alberta Health Services.
Required Skills
- No prior healthcare experience is required; full training will be provided.
- A genuine desire to help others and a compassionate, empathetic nature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Physical ability to perform duties associated with patient care (e.g., lifting, standing, walking).
- Ability to pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic First Aid and CPR certification (will be provided or updated during training if needed).
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in healthcare.
