Job Description

Waste Connections is seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a Compost Facility Operator in Colorado Springs. This is an incredible opportunity for someone eager to learn, as comprehensive heavy machinery training will be provided! You will be responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment to manage and process organic materials into high-quality compost. This role is essential to our sustainability efforts and requires a commitment to safety, efficiency, and environmental best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery such as loaders, excavators, screeners, and windrow turners to process organic waste materials.
- Monitor the composting process, including temperature, moisture levels, and pile turning schedules.
- Load and unload materials, including incoming organic waste and finished compost products.
- Perform routine pre-operational checks and basic maintenance on equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and operational guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the compost facility grounds and equipment.
- Assist with other general labor tasks as needed to support facility operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to learn and operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation to and from the facility.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or experience with vehicle maintenance.
- Previous experience working in an outdoor or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of composting principles or waste management practices (training will be provided).
