Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Charge Nurse / Ward Sister to join our dedicated team in Leduc, Alberta. This role involves leading a nursing shift, ensuring high standards of patient care, and providing support and guidance to junior staff. The successful candidate will be pivotal in maintaining operational efficiency and a positive patient experience. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise nursing staff on duty, delegating tasks effectively.
- Oversee patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with AHS policies and standards.
- Conduct regular ward rounds to assess patient progress and address any concerns.
- Manage and resolve clinical issues and emergencies swiftly and competently.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior nurses and healthcare assistants.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
- Participate in staff development and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and infection control policies.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or eligibility to register.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in an acute care setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a clinical environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to make sound clinical judgments and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong commitment to patient safety and quality care.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
- Valid BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Additional certifications in specific areas of nursing (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
- Experience with staff education and professional development.
- Fluency in a second language relevant to Alberta's diverse population.
