Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Charge Nurse / Ward Sister to join our dedicated team in Leduc, Alberta. This role involves leading a nursing shift, ensuring high standards of patient care, and providing support and guidance to junior staff. The successful candidate will be pivotal in maintaining operational efficiency and a positive patient experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise nursing staff on duty, delegating tasks effectively.
  • Oversee patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with AHS policies and standards.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds to assess patient progress and address any concerns.
  • Manage and resolve clinical issues and emergencies swiftly and competently.
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior nurses and healthcare assistants.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
  • Participate in staff development and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and infection control policies.

Required Skills

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or eligibility to register.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a clinical environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to make sound clinical judgments and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety and quality care.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
  • Valid BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Additional certifications in specific areas of nursing (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
  • Experience with staff education and professional development.
  • Fluency in a second language relevant to Alberta's diverse population.
