Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Master Distiller / Blender to lead our distillation and blending operations. This pivotal role involves overseeing the entire production process, from grain selection to final product maturation and blending, ensuring the highest standards of quality and innovation are met. The successful candidate will be a creative expert in spirit development, with a deep understanding of sensory evaluation, technical processes, and industry trends. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of distillation, maturation, and blending processes for various spirits, ensuring adherence to strict quality control standards.
  • Lead the development of new spirit products and formulations, from concept to commercialization, including recipe creation and sensory evaluation.
  • Manage inventory of raw materials, new make spirits, and aged stocks, optimizing barrel management and blending strategies.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for distillery operations, including safety, sanitation, and environmental compliance.
  • Conduct regular sensory analysis and quality checks on all products, ensuring consistency and excellence.
  • Mentor and develop distillery staff, fostering a culture of innovation, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to communicate product stories and technical specifications.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage.
  • Manage the budget for distillery operations, optimizing resource allocation and cost efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in distillation and blending roles within the alcoholic beverage industry.
  • Proven expertise in sensory evaluation and new product development.
  • Comprehensive understanding of distillation chemistry, microbiology, and aging processes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in maintaining quality control systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and optimize production processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Brewing & Distilling, Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Formal certification in distilling or blending from a recognized institution.
  • Experience with a variety of spirit categories (e.g., whisky, gin, vodka, rum).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
