Job Description

Are you passionate about mental health advocacy and looking to gain invaluable experience in a supportive, remote environment? The CMHA Nova Scotia Division is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Crisis Hotline Intern to join our team. This is an entry-level, training-focused position perfect for individuals eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. You will receive comprehensive training to support individuals experiencing mental health crises, offering empathetic listening, de-escalation techniques, and connecting callers with vital resources. This role is 100% remote, allowing you to contribute from anywhere within Canada while making a meaningful impact in Nova Scotian communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive training in crisis intervention, active listening, and mental health first aid.
  • Provide empathetic and non-judgmental support to individuals contacting the crisis hotline.
  • Effectively de-escalate crisis situations with guidance and support from experienced supervisors.
  • Accurately document call details and maintain confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Collaborate with a team of mental health professionals and volunteers.
  • Familiarize yourself with local, provincial, and national mental health resources to provide appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in regular supervision and debriefing sessions to ensure well-being and continuous learning.
