Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Recovery Nurse to join our theatre team in Kingston upon Thames. In this vital role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centred care during the immediate post-operative period. You will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety, comfort, and a smooth recovery process. This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse with excellent clinical skills and a passion for patient care to thrive within a supportive and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the post-anaesthetic care unit (PACU).
  • Monitor patient vital signs, pain levels, and consciousness post-operatively.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed by medical staff.
  • Assess and manage post-operative complications, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient pathways.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients and their families.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an acute care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage challenging situations.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in administering medications and monitoring patient response.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a recovery, theatre, or critical care environment.
  • Post-registration qualification in anaesthetic nursing or critical care.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines and best practices.
