Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Dairy Farm Herd Manager to oversee the health, welfare, and productivity of our dairy herd. This vital role involves managing daily operations, leading a team, and implementing best practices in dairy farming. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise all aspects of herd health, including disease prevention, treatment protocols, and veterinary liaison.
  • Oversee breeding programs, including artificial insemination, heat detection, and calving management.
  • Develop and implement feeding strategies, ensuring optimal nutrition and feed efficiency.
  • Lead, train, and manage dairy farm staff, including scheduling, performance reviews, and safety compliance.
  • Monitor milk production, quality, and herd records, utilizing data for informed decision-making.
  • Maintain farm equipment and facilities, ensuring a safe and productive working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all animal welfare standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with farm management on strategic planning, budget management, and operational improvements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in dairy herd management and animal husbandry.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent knowledge of dairy nutrition, health, and reproduction.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and data analysis for herd performance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to animal welfare and ethical farming practices.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a related agricultural field.
  • Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role on a large-scale dairy farm.
  • Proficiency in dairy management software.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
