Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with a strong background in structural design and analysis who is looking to advance their career within a globally recognized firm. In this role, you will be responsible for the structural design, analysis, and assessment of various building and infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for a diverse range of projects, including commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional buildings, as well as bridge and civil infrastructure components.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations, specifications, and reports.
  • Develop and review structural drawings and models using relevant software.
  • Collaborate with architects, other engineering disciplines, and project managers to integrate structural designs into overall project plans.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections during construction phases to monitor progress and ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, representing WSP’s expertise and commitment to quality.
  • Ensure all work adheres to Canadian building codes, standards, and WSP's quality assurance procedures.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 4 years (48 months) of progressive experience in structural design and analysis
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or eligible for immediate registration
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Revit)
  • Strong understanding of Canadian building codes and standards (e.g., NBCC, CSA A23.3, CSA S16)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Experience with seismic design and performance-based design principles
  • Experience in project management or lead engineering roles
  • LEED Accreditation or experience with sustainable design principles
  • Familiarity with local Salmon Arm/Okanagan region construction practices and challenges
