Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Probation Officer to join our team in Derby. As a Probation Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing offenders in the community, working to reduce reoffending, and ensuring public safety. This challenging yet rewarding role involves assessing risks, developing and implementing supervision plans, and collaborating with various agencies to support rehabilitation and reintegration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of offenders, including those with complex needs and high-risk profiles.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and prepare reports for courts and parole boards.
  • Develop, implement, and review supervision plans tailored to individual offenders.
  • Monitor compliance with court orders and license conditions.
  • Engage with offenders to motivate behavioral change and address underlying causes of offending.
  • Liaise effectively with external agencies such as police, social services, housing, and substance misuse services.
  • Attend court hearings and provide professional advice and information.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and case management systems.
  • Contribute to team meetings and service development initiatives.

Required Skills

  • A recognised qualification in Probation (e.g., DipPS, PQiP).
  • Strong understanding of criminal justice legislation and probation practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and demanding caseload.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Resilience and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Commitment to public protection and reducing reoffending.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse offender populations.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Derby.
  • Proficiency in using case management software specific to probation services.
  • Additional qualifications in criminology, social work, or related fields.
