Job Description
Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about giving back to your community? Goodwill Industries of Northwest Ohio is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Thrift / Charity Shop Sorting Assistant to join our backroom team in Toledo. In this flexible, on-site role, you will be crucial in processing donations, ensuring high-quality items make it to our sales floor, and contributing to the overall success of our mission. This position involves handling a variety of donated goods, from clothing and housewares to electronics, requiring a keen eye for quality and a commitment to our environmental sustainability goals. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, unload, and sort incoming donations according to company guidelines.
- Inspect items for quality, damage, and suitability for sale.
- Categorize and tag merchandise accurately for retail display.
- Hang, fold, and prepare clothing and other soft goods.
- Clean and sanitize donated items as needed.
- Operate basic material handling equipment safely (e.g., hand trucks, pallet jacks), if trained.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe backroom work environment.
- Assist with inventory management and stock rotation as directed.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve daily production goals.
Required Skills
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs) regularly throughout a shift.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Basic understanding of quality assessment.
- No specific educational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail, warehouse, or sorting roles.
- Familiarity with various types of merchandise (clothing, collectibles, electronics).
- Enthusiasm for environmental sustainability and community service.
