Job Description
The Archaeology & Field Excavation Intern will gain invaluable hands-on experience in archaeological research methods, field excavation techniques, and artifact processing. This internship provides an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate about archaeology to contribute to ongoing research projects under the guidance of experienced archaeologists. No prior experience is required; comprehensive training will be provided, focusing on safety, ethical practices, and best archaeological standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in archaeological field surveys and excavations, including digging, screening, and mapping.
- Assist with the documentation of archaeological features and artifacts through photography, drawing, and detailed record-keeping.
- Learn and apply proper artifact recovery, cleaning, and cataloging procedures in a laboratory setting.
- Contribute to data entry and preliminary analysis of archaeological findings.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and ethical guidelines for archaeological fieldwork.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and researchers.
- Maintain field equipment and ensure the cleanliness of excavation sites and laboratory spaces.
Required Skills
- Strong interest and passion for archaeology and historical research
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team environment
- Good physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accurate record-keeping
- Enthusiasm for learning new skills and methodologies
- Basic computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate program in Archaeology, Anthropology, History, or a related field
- Previous volunteer experience in archaeology or museum settings
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent)
- CPR and First Aid certification
