Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Bespoke Tailor / Alterations Assistant to join our esteemed team at Selfridges & Co. in Manchester. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for precision sewing, garment construction, and delivering exceptional customer satisfaction. You will be instrumental in ensuring our customers’ garments fit perfectly, reflecting the luxury and quality synonymous with the Selfridges brand. While a solid foundation in sewing is required, this role also offers the opportunity to develop your skills further within a supportive and high-end retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality alterations and repairs on a variety of garments, including luxury and bespoke items.
- Conduct fittings with customers, accurately pinning and marking garments for alterations.
- Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines proficiently, as well as hand-sewing techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are in excellent condition.
- Assist with inventory management of tailoring supplies and fabrics.
- Collaborate effectively with sales associates and other team members to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Uphold the brand's standards for quality and presentation in all work undertaken.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable proficiency in operating sewing machines and executing hand-sewing techniques.
- Basic knowledge of garment construction and pattern interpretation.
- Excellent attention to detail and a keen eye for precision.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or qualification in tailoring, fashion design, or garment technology.
- Previous experience in a retail alterations department or bespoke tailoring workshop.
- Experience working with luxury fabrics and delicate materials.
- Familiarity with various types of garment alterations, from basic hems to complex structural changes.
