Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and vigilant CCTV Operator to join our security team in Southampton. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring surveillance cameras, identifying suspicious activities, and ensuring the safety and security of our port facilities, assets, and personnel. This role requires sharp attention to detail, quick decision-making, and effective communication skills to respond to incidents promptly and professionally. You will be an integral part of maintaining a secure operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor CCTV systems to ensure continuous surveillance of port areas, ensuring adherence to security protocols.
  • Identify and report any unusual, suspicious, or illegal activities to the relevant security personnel or emergency services.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of all incidents, observations, and actions taken during shifts.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments, security teams, and external agencies (e.g., police, fire department) during emergencies.
  • Conduct regular checks on CCTV equipment to ensure full functionality and report any faults.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents by reviewing footage and providing evidence when required.
  • Adhere strictly to data protection and privacy regulations (GDPR) regarding CCTV footage and personal data.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in CCTV monitoring or a similar security role (1 year minimum).
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and security software.
  • SIA CCTV Public Space Surveillance (PSS) licence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a port or high-security environment.
  • Knowledge of maritime security regulations (ISPS Code).
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Full UK Driving License.
