Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and vigilant Control Room Operator to join our team at the Port of Swansea. In this critical role, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling port operations, security systems, and traffic movements to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with all regulations. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, quick decision-making, and the ability to operate complex systems under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor CCTV systems, access control, and alarm systems across the port area.
  • Manage and record port vessel movements, including arrivals, departures, and berth allocations.
  • Operate and monitor communication systems, including marine radio (VHF) and internal telephone networks.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., security, marine operations, engineering) and external agencies (e.g., emergency services, customs).
  • Respond to and log all incidents, emergencies, and system alerts, escalating as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of all activities, incidents, and communications.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions and information to port users and personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and port security regulations.
  • Assist in the testing and maintenance of control room equipment and systems.

Required Skills

  • Previous experience in a control room or similar operational environment.
  • Proficiency in using CCTV, access control, and communication systems.
  • Excellent observation skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in security, maritime operations, or emergency response.
  • Knowledge of port operations, maritime law, or health and safety regulations.
  • Experience with SCADA systems or other industrial control systems.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • First Aid qualification.
