Job Description

Join AECOM as an Entry-Level Environmental Sampling Assistant in Santa Monica, CA! This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about environmental science and eager to kickstart their career with hands-on field experience. No prior experience is required as comprehensive training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in collecting environmental samples, contributing to critical projects that protect and improve our natural surroundings. This position involves significant outdoor field work in various weather conditions and requires physical stamina.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior staff in the collection of environmental samples (soil, water, air, sediment, etc.) following strict protocols.
  • Prepare and calibrate field equipment for sampling activities.
  • Document field observations, measurements, and sample collection data accurately and meticulously.
  • Package and label samples for shipment to analytical laboratories.
  • Maintain and clean field equipment, ensuring proper working order.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and site-specific health and safety plans.
  • Support logistics for field operations, including material staging and vehicle preparation.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Basic understanding of scientific principles or a keen interest in environmental science.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Punctuality and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Enrollment in or completion of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in environmental science, geology, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (training will be provided if not already held).
  • Prior experience with outdoor labor or hands-on technical work.
