Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Industrial Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team in Chilliwack, BC. This role involves the full lifecycle of automation projects, from initial concept and design through to commissioning and ongoing support. You will be responsible for developing and implementing PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems, and optimizing processes for maximum performance. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement industrial automation control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
  • Program and configure PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric) and associated hardware.
  • Develop intuitive Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications.
  • Conduct system testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal functionality and reliability.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation.
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, and user manuals.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and process engineers.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in industrial automation.
  • Ensure all designs and implementations comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial automation design and implementation.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram) for platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, or Schneider Unity Pro.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA development using platforms such as Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, or WinCC.
  • Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA).
  • Knowledge of control panel design and electrical schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Canada or eligibility for registration.
  • Experience with robotic systems and vision systems integration.
  • Knowledge of database integration and data analytics for industrial applications.
  • Experience in specific industries such as manufacturing, food & beverage, water/wastewater, or pulp & paper.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 62061).
