Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Internet of Things (IoT) Engineering Intern to join our innovative team in St. John’s. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for students or recent graduates eager to gain practical experience in the rapidly evolving field of IoT and smart device development. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the design, development, and testing of IoT solutions for our advanced marine robotics and sensor systems. This role is designed for individuals with little to no prior professional experience, offering comprehensive mentorship and a hands-on learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of IoT device prototypes and embedded systems.
  • Support the integration of sensors and communication modules into smart device architectures.
  • Contribute to coding and debugging firmware for IoT devices.
  • Participate in data collection and analysis from connected devices.
  • Document technical specifications, test procedures, and project progress.
  • Research emerging IoT technologies, platforms, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on various project phases, from conception to deployment.
  • Provide support for hardware assembly and software configuration of IoT components.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles or computer science concepts.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Java).
  • Eagerness to learn about IoT systems, embedded programming, and hardware integration.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Some exposure to microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi) or sensor projects.
  • Basic knowledge of data communication protocols (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa).
  • Understanding of basic circuit design and schematic reading.
