Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Letterpress & Screenprinting Intern to join our dynamic team. This entry-level internship offers an incredible opportunity to learn the intricacies of both letterpress and screenprinting from experienced artisans. You will gain hands-on experience in every stage of the printmaking process, from design preparation and plate making to press operation and finishing. This role is ideal for individuals with a keen interest in print arts, a strong desire to learn, and a meticulous eye for detail. No prior experience in printmaking is required; we are committed to providing comprehensive training and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of letterpress and screenprinting equipment.
- Prepare screens and presses for printing, including mixing inks and registering designs.
- Learn and perform basic maintenance tasks on machinery.
- Support in the cleaning and organization of the studio and materials.
- Assist with print production, including feeding paper, pulling prints, and quality control.
- Help with post-printing processes such as trimming, packaging, and inventory management.
- Shadow experienced printmakers and actively participate in learning sessions.
- Contribute creative ideas during design and production meetings.
- Maintain a safe and tidy work environment.
Required Skills
- Eagerness to learn and a strong interest in printmaking or graphic arts.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for design file handling (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite basics is a plus, but not required).
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant art, design, or printmaking program.
- A foundational understanding of design principles or typography.
- Basic experience with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
- A personal portfolio showcasing creative work, regardless of medium.
