Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and physically capable Lighting Technician’s Mate to join our dedicated team in Barrow-in-Furness. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about live events, eager to learn the ropes of event lighting, climbing, and rigging. As a Mate, you will work closely with experienced Lighting Technicians, assisting in all aspects of setup, operation, and teardown of complex lighting systems for various events. Full training will be provided to ensure you develop the necessary skills and safety knowledge for working at height and with specialized rigging equipment. This role offers high pay reflective of the specialized nature of the work and the commitment to safety and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior Lighting Technicians with the setup and dismantling of lighting fixtures, trusses, and rigging equipment.
- Learn and apply safe working practices for climbing, rigging, and working at height under direct supervision.
- Handle, transport, and maintain lighting equipment and cables, ensuring they are in excellent working condition.
- Support the technical team during event rehearsals and live shows, making adjustments as required.
- Perform routine checks on equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and industry standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace on site and in the warehouse.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 25kg).
- Comfortable working at heights and in various environments (indoor/outdoor).
- Willingness to learn specialized climbing and rigging techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
- Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail.
- Reliable and punctual with a flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor activities.
- Knowledge of basic tools and equipment.
- Full UK driving license.
- First Aid certification.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., IPAF, PASMA, IRATA L1) – training will be provided if not held.
