Job Description
We are immediately hiring a dedicated and skilled Forklift Operator to join our team at the Wilmington, DE lumber yard. This is a full-time position in an outdoor environment, where you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of lumber and various building materials. You will play a vital role in our daily operations, ensuring products are accurately stored, retrieved, and prepared for dispatch. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate a forklift to move, stack, load, and unload lumber and other building materials.
- Load and unload delivery trucks and trailers, ensuring proper securing of materials for transport.
- Organize and maintain inventory in the lumber yard, ensuring materials are stored correctly and accessible.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and other equipment, reporting any maintenance issues.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist customers and internal staff with order fulfillment, material selection, and general yard duties as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the lumber yard.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (1+ year) operating a forklift, preferably in an outdoor, industrial, or lumber yard setting.
- Ability to work effectively and safely in various outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Strong understanding and commitment to workplace safety protocols.
- Basic mathematical skills for inventory counting and order verification.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid forklift certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience working in a lumber yard, building materials supply company, or similar industry.
- Familiarity with different types of lumber, construction materials, and their storage requirements.
