Job Description
We are immediately seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our dynamic team in Jacksonville. This is a full-time position primarily operating in an outdoor lumber yard environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently moving lumber and building materials, loading and unloading trucks, and maintaining an organized yard. Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to move, load, and unload lumber and other building materials.
- Stack and unstack materials in designated areas, ensuring proper organization and accessibility.
- Inspect materials for damage and report discrepancies or issues to yard management.
- Assist in receiving incoming shipments and preparing outgoing orders.
- Perform pre-shift inspections of equipment and complete daily maintenance logs.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the lumber yard.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth and efficient yard operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum 6 months of experience operating a forklift, preferably in a lumber yard or similar outdoor industrial setting.
- Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and practices in a yard environment.
- Ability to work effectively in varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand, walk, and perform other strenuous tasks as required.
- Basic math skills for inventory and order verification.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience with various types of forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach truck).
- Knowledge of lumber grades and building materials.
- Previous experience in a warehousing, logistics, or construction supply environment.
