Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and safety-conscious Lumber Yard Forklift Operator for immediate hire to join our busy team in Maidstone. This essential role involves working in an outdoor lumber yard environment, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of various timber products and building materials. You will be responsible for loading and unloading deliveries, organising yard stock, and assisting customers with their orders using a counterbalance forklift. This is a hands-on position requiring physical stamina and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently to move, load, and unload timber and building materials.
- Ensure accurate and organised storage of all lumber products within the yard.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and report any defects immediately.
- Assist with general yard duties, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Comply with all company health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Accurately complete paperwork related to goods in/out and stock movement.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers with loading their vehicles as required.
Required Skills
- Valid counterbalance forklift license/certification.
- Demonstrable experience operating a forklift in an outdoor or yard environment (minimum 6 months).
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices in a yard setting.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects when required.
- Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a timber yard, builders' merchant, or similar outdoor environment.
- Knowledge of various timber products and building materials.
- Additional forklift certifications (e.g., reach truck).
