Job Description
We are actively seeking dedicated and skilled Medical Technologists to join our laboratory team in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in patient care by performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures, contributing essential data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex medical laboratory tests and procedures in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, troubleshooting as needed.
- Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and reliability before releasing reports.
- Adhere strictly to quality control and quality assurance protocols to maintain high standards of testing.
- Prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring proper handling and identification.
- Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding test results and laboratory procedures.
- Participate in the training and mentorship of new staff and students as required.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and departmental policies.
Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
- Current certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or eligibility for certification.
- Proficiency in performing a broad range of laboratory tests and operating associated equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting.
- Experience with specific laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Familiarity with Canadian healthcare standards and practices.
- Additional language proficiency (asset, but not required).
