Job Description

We are actively seeking dedicated and skilled Medical Technologists to join our laboratory team in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in patient care by performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures, contributing essential data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex medical laboratory tests and procedures in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, troubleshooting as needed.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and reliability before releasing reports.
  • Adhere strictly to quality control and quality assurance protocols to maintain high standards of testing.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring proper handling and identification.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding test results and laboratory procedures.
  • Participate in the training and mentorship of new staff and students as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and departmental policies.

Required Skills

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Current certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or eligibility for certification.
  • Proficiency in performing a broad range of laboratory tests and operating associated equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting.
  • Experience with specific laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Familiarity with Canadian healthcare standards and practices.
  • Additional language proficiency (asset, but not required).
