Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Meteorologist to join our dynamic news team in Edinburgh. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and delivering accurate, engaging weather forecasts across STV’s multiple platforms, including television broadcasts, digital channels, and social media. You will interpret complex meteorological data, create clear visual presentations, and communicate weather patterns and their potential impacts to a diverse audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret meteorological data from various sources (satellite, radar, models).
- Prepare and present accurate, timely, and localized weather forecasts for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Develop compelling graphics and visual aids to enhance weather segments.
- Communicate complex weather phenomena clearly and concisely to a general audience.
- Provide expert commentary and analysis during significant weather events.
- Collaborate with news producers and presenters to integrate weather segments into overall programming.
- Stay current with the latest meteorological research, forecasting techniques, and technological advancements.
Required Skills
- Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in weather forecasting and presentation, preferably in a media environment.
- Strong understanding of synoptic and mesoscale meteorology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into understandable information.
- Proficiency with weather graphics software and presentation tools.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a live broadcast environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Meteorology or a related discipline.
- Experience with specific weather forecasting models and data visualization tools.
- Prior experience in broadcast meteorology.
- Knowledge of Scottish geography and its impact on local weather patterns.
- Familiarity with digital media content creation.
