Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Meteorology & Climate Science Intern to join our team at a local weather station in Estevan. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about weather patterns, climate change, and environmental data collection to gain hands-on experience. You will play a crucial role in collecting, processing, and analyzing meteorological data, contributing to important climate research and operational decision-making. Full training will be provided to ensure your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the routine collection and recording of meteorological data from various instruments.
  • Perform basic maintenance and calibration checks on weather station equipment under supervision.
  • Contribute to the organization and quality control of meteorological datasets.
  • Support the analysis of weather patterns and climate trends relevant to SaskPower operations.
  • Prepare preliminary reports and summaries of collected data.
  • Learn and adhere to all safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior meteorologists and environmental scientists on ongoing projects.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in meteorology, climate science, or environmental studies.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, environmental science, geography, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of weather instruments and meteorological principles.
  • Experience with data entry or simple data analysis software is a plus.
