Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Packaging Machinery Technician to join our dynamic team at the Manchester facility. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our automated packaging lines. Your expertise will directly impact production efficiency and product quality. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on a variety of packaging machinery, including fillers, sealers, labelers, and cartoners, to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on packaging lines quickly and efficiently.
  • Execute repairs and replacements of faulty components, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Set up and adjust machinery for different product specifications, including changeovers and fine-tuning for optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with production operators and engineers to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment performance.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and company policies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce waste.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician or similar role within a manufacturing environment, preferably food or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with industrial machinery.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including reading schematics and working with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific packaging machinery brands or types common in the food industry.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
  • Forklift truck license or ability to obtain one.
