Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Public Cemetery Groundskeeper. This vital role involves maintaining the beauty and serenity of our public cemeteries, ensuring they are always presented with dignity and respect. You will be responsible for the upkeep of the grounds, contributing to a peaceful environment for visitors and honoring those laid to rest. This is an outdoor, hands-on position requiring physical stamina and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, edging, and leaf blowing.
- Cultivate and maintain landscaped areas, including planting, watering, fertilizing, and weeding.
- Operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
- Prepare grave sites for burials, ensuring dignity and precision.
- Assist with the removal of litter and debris to maintain cleanliness and order.
- Monitor grounds for hazards or issues and report them to supervisors.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental guidelines.
- Interact with the public in a respectful and professional manner.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of groundskeeping techniques and equipment operation.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Respectful and empathetic demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid state-issued driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a similar outdoor role.
- Familiarity with cemetery operations or a similar sensitive environment.
- Experience operating light power equipment.
