Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to elevate our guests’ dining experience through expert wine selection and service. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of global wines, a sophisticated palate, and exceptional customer service skills. This role involves curating our extensive wine list, managing inventory, conducting staff training, and providing personalized recommendations to enhance each guest’s meal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive, well-curated wine list that complements the restaurant's menu.
  • Assist guests with wine and beverage selections, offering expert recommendations and pairings.
  • Educate staff on wine regions, varietals, vintages, and proper service techniques.
  • Oversee wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and conducting regular audits.
  • Maintain optimal cellar conditions for all wines.
  • Conduct regular wine tastings for staff to enhance product knowledge.
  • Handle wine service, including decanting, pouring, and presenting wines according to fine dining standards.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to suggest wine pairings for menu changes and special events.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and federal liquor laws and regulations.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in wine knowledge, including regions, varietals, producers, and vintages.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or Assistant Sommelier in a fine dining setting.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on guest service.
  • Ability to manage wine inventory and control costs effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift wine cases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Sommelier (CS) or Advanced Sommelier (AS) certification from a recognized body (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers).
  • Experience with POS and inventory management systems (e.g., BinWise, PeachWorks).
  • Multilingual abilities, especially French or Italian.
