Job Description

Eastern Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Speech and Language Pathologist to join our interdisciplinary team in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. This is a unique opportunity for qualified professionals, including international applicants, to contribute their expertise in a dynamic healthcare setting. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive speech and language pathology services to a diverse caseload, working across various clinical programs such as acute care, rehabilitation, long-term care, and community health. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders across all age groups.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practice and patient-centered goals.
  • Provide direct therapy services in various settings including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and community facilities.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on communication strategies and swallowing safety techniques.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide consultation and support to other healthcare professionals regarding speech, language, and swallowing needs.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university program.
  • Eligible for or current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP) as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and professional ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Canadian healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to St. John's diverse population.
  • Experience with dysphagia management and instrumental assessments (e.g., FEES, VFSS).
  • Experience supervising students or mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Demonstrated experience with telepractice models for service delivery.
