Job Description

Stantec is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. You will be responsible for the structural design, analysis, and documentation of various building and infrastructure projects, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, innovative, and sustainable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of projects, including commercial, industrial, residential, and institutional buildings, as well as infrastructure.
  • Prepare detailed structural calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings in accordance with Canadian building codes and industry standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with architects, project managers, other engineering disciplines, and clients.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and assessments during various project phases.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and other contractor submittals.
  • Identify and resolve complex engineering problems, applying sound engineering principles.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Ensure compliance with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in structural design and analysis.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or immediate eligibility for registration.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM, Revit Structures).
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian building codes (NBCC) and design standards.
  • Experience with various construction materials, including steel, reinforced concrete, timber, and masonry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated eligibility and willingness to undergo the LMIA and Skilled Worker Visa application process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with bridge design or complex industrial structures.
  • Project management experience or certifications.
  • LEED Green Associate or Professional accreditation.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and clash detection.
