Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting entry point into the dynamic world of port operations? Ports America Brownsville is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Trainee Port Authority Operations Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with no prior experience to learn the essential functions of port logistics and administration from the ground up. You will receive comprehensive training to support our operations, ensuring smooth and efficient cargo movement and vessel turnaround. This role involves shift work, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires a commitment to safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all provided training programs to learn port operational procedures and safety protocols.
- Assist in data entry and maintenance of operational records, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support the coordination of vessel arrivals, departures, and cargo handling activities under supervision.
- Communicate effectively with various departments, vessel crews, and external partners as directed.
- Monitor equipment and facility conditions, reporting any discrepancies or maintenance needs.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations and environmental policies.
- Perform general administrative duties and other operational support tasks as assigned.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability and punctuality for assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work environment.
- Familiarity with maritime operations or logistics concepts (not required, but a plus).
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
