Job Description

Redbridge Council is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Welfare Inspector to join our Public Sector Compliance team. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program to understand welfare legislation, compliance procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct fieldwork, including site visits and interviews, under supervision, to verify information and assess compliance with welfare regulations.
- Assist in the investigation of welfare-related concerns, gathering evidence, and preparing reports.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to provide information and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions and investigations using council systems.
- Collaborate with senior inspectors and other council departments to ensure coordinated service delivery.
- Adhere to all council policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of welfare compliance processes.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- A strong desire to learn and develop a career in public service and compliance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A proactive and methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding professional standards.
- No prior experience in welfare inspection or compliance is required; full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- A-levels or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in a customer service or community-facing role (voluntary or paid).
- A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (as fieldwork may be required).
- Knowledge of the local Redbridge area.
