Job Description

Join The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #10, as a Veteran Affairs Outreach Assistant and play a crucial role in supporting our nation’s heroes. This position involves active engagement with local veterans, their families, and community partners to ensure they are aware of and can access available services and benefits. You will be instrumental in organizing outreach events, providing information, and connecting veterans with the resources they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to veterans and their families within the Brandon area to inform them of available support and services.
  • Assist veterans with navigating and understanding various government and community programs related to their well-being.
  • Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and information sessions aimed at veterans.
  • Maintain accurate records of veteran interactions, resources provided, and follow-up activities.
  • Collaborate with other Legion members, volunteers, and community organizations to maximize support for veterans.
  • Provide administrative support for veteran-focused initiatives and programs.
  • Act as a compassionate point of contact, offering empathetic listening and guidance.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • A genuine desire to support and advocate for veterans.
  • Empathy, patience, and discretion in handling sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social work, community development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a client-facing role, customer service, or community outreach.
  • Familiarity with veteran affairs programs or services (an asset, but not required).
  • Volunteer experience, particularly with community or veteran organizations.
