Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon to join our dynamic team in Calgary. You will be responsible for performing a wide range of surgical procedures, providing expert diagnostic interpretation, and collaborating with our multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and client satisfaction. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of soft tissue, orthopedic, and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Conduct thorough pre-surgical evaluations and develop comprehensive surgical plans.
  • Oversee post-operative patient care, including pain management and rehabilitation.
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging (radiographs, ultrasound, CT, MRI) to aid in surgical planning and diagnosis.
  • Collaborate effectively with emergency, internal medicine, and other specialty departments.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners regarding surgical options, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Maintain meticulous medical records and ensure compliance with all veterinary regulations.
  • Participate in our rotating on-call schedule for surgical emergencies.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to veterinary technicians and support staff.

Required Skills

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
  • Eligible for immediate or rapid veterinary licensure in the province of Alberta, Canada.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience performing a broad scope of veterinary surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in surgical techniques and patient management.
  • Exceptional diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Superior communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced emergency and specialty setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board-certification (e.g., ACVS, ECVS) or completion of a surgical residency program.
  • Experience working within a multi-specialty or university teaching hospital environment.
  • Familiarity with advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques.
  • A proven track record of contributing to a positive team environment.
