Job Description

Victim Support Cymru is seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Victim Advocate in Swansea. This is a unique opportunity to begin a rewarding career in the public sector, providing essential support to victims of crime. No prior experience in advocacy is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this vital role. You will be instrumental in guiding victims through the emotional and practical aftermath of crime, offering a lifeline of support and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide empathetic emotional support and practical assistance to victims of crime.
- Act as a primary point of contact for victims, offering information and guidance throughout their journey.
- Advocate effectively for victims' rights and needs with relevant agencies, including the police and criminal justice system.
- Refer victims to appropriate specialist services and community resources as required.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records of all interactions and support provided.
- Actively participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to a supportive team environment, sharing best practices and insights.
Required Skills
- Exceptional communication and active listening skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
- Strong sense of empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications
- Some experience in a customer service, care, or support-oriented role (volunteer or paid).
- Basic understanding or interest in the UK criminal justice system.
- Ability to speak Welsh is desirable, but not essential.
- Knowledge of local community resources in Swansea and surrounding areas.
