Job Description
Join our dynamic team as a Virtual Website Accessibility Tester. This is a 100% remote position focused on ensuring our digital products and services are accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. We are specifically looking for individuals who have personal experience using screen readers and understand the challenges and nuances of navigating the web using assistive technologies. While formal accessibility testing experience is beneficial, it is not strictly required; comprehensive training will be provided on industry standards (WCAG), testing methodologies, and tools. Your unique insights as a screen reader user will be invaluable in identifying barriers and advocating for inclusive design. You will play a crucial role in enhancing the user experience for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough accessibility testing on websites and web applications using various screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and other assistive technologies.
- Identify and document accessibility barriers and non-compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA/AAA) and other relevant standards.
- Provide clear, concise, and actionable feedback to development and design teams.
- Collaborate with product owners, designers, and developers to ensure accessibility is integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on accessibility best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest accessibility guidelines, standards, and assistive technology developments.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our accessibility testing processes and documentation.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in using at least one major screen reader (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) for web navigation.
- Strong understanding of web browsing experience from a screen reader user's perspective.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills to identify accessibility issues.
- Ability to articulate technical issues clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Proactive and self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and grow in the field of digital accessibility.
- Basic familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus, but not essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a quality assurance or testing role (accessibility-specific or general software testing).
- Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
- Knowledge of other assistive technologies beyond screen readers (e.g., keyboard navigation, speech recognition).
- Experience using accessibility testing tools or browser extensions.
- Relevant certifications in accessibility (e.g., IAAP CPACC, WAS).
