Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and community-oriented Marine Patrol Assistant to join our Public Safety team. This vital role involves patrolling designated waterways within Carmel, ensuring public safety, assisting boaters, and enforcing local regulations. The Marine Patrol Assistant will be provided with all necessary watercraft, equipment, and comprehensive training to perform duties effectively. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol designated lakes, rivers, and other waterways within city limits.
- Enforce local boating ordinances, state regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Provide assistance and information to boaters and the general public.
- Conduct routine safety checks of watercraft and educate operators on best practices.
- Respond to incidents, accidents, or emergencies on the water, providing initial support.
- Maintain detailed logs of patrol activities, incidents, and observations.
- Operate and perform basic maintenance checks on patrol watercraft and equipment.
- Collaborate with other public safety agencies as needed.
- Participate in community outreach and educational programs on water safety.
Required Skills
- Strong swimming ability and comfort in aquatic environments.
- Basic knowledge of boating safety rules and general water recreation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the public effectively.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in emergency situations.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within a specified timeframe.
- Physical ability to operate watercraft and perform duties in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating small boats or personal watercraft.
- Prior experience in a public safety, law enforcement, or customer service role.
- Boater safety course certification (e.g., from US Coast Guard Auxiliary or state agency).
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor equipment troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of marine navigation and local waterways in Carmel.
