Job Description
Join the dedicated team at Ascension Seton as a Surgical Instrument Sterilization Tech. In this vital back-office role, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterility, and functionality of all surgical instruments and equipment used in our operating rooms and other clinical areas. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict safety protocols, and a commitment to patient safety. Key Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment according to established sterile processing guidelines and procedures.
- Inspect instruments for functionality and damage, ensuring all items are in proper working order.
- Assemble instrument trays and sets accurately for various surgical procedures.
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, sonic cleaners, and other specialized machinery.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles and biological indicators to ensure effectiveness.
- Manage inventory of sterile supplies, rotating stock and reordering as necessary.
- Adhere to all infection control policies, safety regulations, and regulatory agency requirements (e.g., AAMI, JCAHO).
- Communicate effectively with surgical staff regarding instrument availability and specific needs.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols precisely.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and inventory management.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and push/pull carts.
- Commitment to patient safety and quality care.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- No prior experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Sterile Processing (e.g., CBSPD, IAHCSMM).
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical instruments.
